Menelik II was a genius at using foreign powers without permitting them to dominate his country. This was a difficult period for Africa. At the time almost all countries of Africa were under attack by European countries. Menelik II kept his Kingdom free. He welcomed European ambassadors , technicians , military experts, traders, and missionaries to Ethiopia to gain knowledge to build his country for his people. During the last part of Menelik's reign, he devoted much of his time to construction projects including schools, hospitals, industries, and journalistic ventures to improve Ethiopia for his people.                 (Put pointer on picture)                                     (Menu Link)
